Learning Goals for Grade 1

 It is important that you know the expectations for your child in first grade.
 Expectations have been made very clear to teachers through VT's Framework of
Standards, FNESU's Curriculum Mapping and the Common Core Standards that have
been adopted by most states in the U.S.A.
 The following is just a sample list of my goals that will be monitored by me
and reported out to you at the end of this year in your child's report card:

2011-2012:

By June 2012, 100% of Grade 1 Students will:

Literacy:

•	Earn 90% or higher on Treasures Weekly Assessments; these assessment scores
may include reteach scores the first half of the year.  (Note: I plan to add
short writing prompts and complement questions to weekly assessments. 
Assessments will have an attainable 20 questions; Mastery would equal no more
than 2 wrong/ assessment).
•	Meet or exceed the target scores for the following assessments:  
1.	Fountas & Pinnell (Comprehension, Reading Accuracy, Fluency) as an outcome
measure, to be reported as: above, at or below grade level;
2.	DIBELS Oral Reading Fluency (40awpm goal).
		
•	Meet or exceed the expectations for writing:
o	Informational Report (requiring 3 sentences with relevant details);
o	Personal Narrative Multi Page Book; 
o	Response to Literary Text, as outlined in Essential Maps.

Math:

•	Solve given problems using self-selected strategy (doubles, neighbors,
counting on, inverse operations),” and
Write and solve fluently equations (facts) 0-20, with 90% accuracy as assessed
by Rocket Math and/or Bridges Interview assessment.
•	Identify orally and/or in writing, all whole numbers to 200, with (no less
than 5 errors) as assessed by teacher created materials or Bridges.
•	Recognize orally or in writing models, diagrams of given fraction: a/2, a/3,
a/4 with at least 90% accuracy, as assessed by teacher created, online and/or
Bridges material and attached to Curriculum Map.
•	Apply monetary value of each coin for problem solving and identify time to
hour and half-hour, as assessed by Unit and Number Corner Bridges assessments,
with at least 90% accuracy.
•	Identify 3-Dimensional shapes in the environment when given an example, on
9/10 examples.
•	Earn no less than a total score of "3" on portfolio problems in category of
“Math Representation” on VT DOE rubric assessment.  Students will be formally
assessed on 4 portfolio problems as scheduled by the FNESU Assessment Plan.
