Our Spelling Program is Fundations, with Cast A Spell and Word Sorts
integration. Lists are not "given," but a spelling rule is learned.
Each week/unit, I will give the spelling concept that is being
practiced. To me, learning the spelling concept allows for a much
greater breadth of challenge. When a child learns "-ing," for some it
may be...ring, bing, and for others...thing, climbing, rollerskating,
etc. You will be shocked at the Cast A Spell words coming later in
the school year: mul ti pli ca tion, cal cu la tion (after learning
the "tion" word chunk).
