It is the right for every student to have time to learn. In Fifth Grade at Badger Mountain Elementary, teachers are committed to helping your child achieve high academic and behavioral standards. The Bobcat Big Three has been implemented for appropriate behavior in the classroom, halls, lunchroom, playground and buses. This citizen plan celebrates when students make positive choices for their academics and behaviors.
The rules for our school include:
- Show Respect
- Make Good Decisions
- Solve Problems
Students that follow these rules are rewarded by receiving Caught at Being Great slips. One portion of this slip is put in a drawing where they are invited to eat with Mrs. Ledbetter and/or a free homework pass. The other portion of the slip is given to the child to take home to share the great news with their parents. Celebrate with your child when they receive this reward.
If your child chooses to not follow the Bobcat Big Three, they will move to an area in the classroom to fill out a Refocus Form that includes the following questions:
- What was your behavior?
- What rule did you break?
- What could you have done instead?
This is a time for your child to reflect on the appropriate behavior that will allow everyone successful time to learn.
If negative behavior continues, students will be referred to the office. During the referral, students may be invited to be in the time-out room where the child will have the opportunity to fill out the Refocus Form with the help of a time-out aide. Following this, a written behavior agreement will be filled out so that parents are aware of the behavior.
If students are frequently filling out Refocus Forms, they could be invited to attend Monday Academy. Due to the amount of lost learning time, students will have an opportunity to make up their studies on Monday afternoon from 3:15 - 4:00. This will help your child maintain academic excellence in an alternative setting. If your child chooses Monday Academy, you will receive a written form that briefly explains the behavior and allows you to set up a plan for how your child is getting home.
