UPDATE: February 3, 2014
Welcome to the boys' basketball season! We expect a great turn out this
Even more exciting, we will not need to cut any of our athletes as our
Athletic Director is looking for games so that we may have several teams.
We are presented with some problems however. Many athletes and one gymnasium
presents our coaches with quite a challenge for practice court time. Also,
long practices mean less time for student-athletes to finish their homework.
We will be splitting our practices and providing an hour-long study hall for
our athletes when they are not on the court. We are hoping this will help our
student athletes do better in class, and increase their academic skills as
well as their basketball skills.
The biggest issue is when there is no game and all the athletes are in the
gym at the same time. It is not possible for us scrimmage all of the
athletes during one practice. Once the season starts, however, this problem
will be less prevalent as we have so many games.
I (Coach Wood) will be coaching the Varsity and running practices. Mike
Lauritzen will be the Junior Varsity coach, and returning to our coaching
staff this year is Ryan Heffernan. We are all teachers here at Hudtloff and
each of us prioritize academics over basketball.
