Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,
We are in our last quarter of the school year! I am very proud of the hard work our students have put into their learning this year. All students in Washington State will be taking the state assessment, Measure of Student Progress (MSP) in May beginning at 8:30 each test day. Students may take the whole day if they choose but typically will be finished with each test in about two to three hours. The schedule is as follows:
May 1: Seventh Grade Writing
May 3: Seventh Grade Writing and Eighth Grade Science
May 8: Sixth Grade Reading, Seventh Grade Reading, and Eighth Grade Math
May 10: Sixth Grade Math, Seventh Grade Math, and Eighth Grade Reading

We celebrate certificated staff the week of May 7-11. Please remember to let your child’s teachers know how much you appreciate them. We are very fortunate at Hudtloff to have such committed educators. I am humbled by their dedication and willingness to go the extra mile to ensure the success of our students. Recently, Mary Carlisle, eighth grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher and Jennifer Tyrell-Smith, Classroom Paraeducator were nominated by their colleagues for CPSD Employee of The Year. This is a significant recognition that they each deserve! We are very proud of both of them.

Please plan to attend our next PTSA meeting on Tuesday, May 8 beginning at 6:30, in the school library. We have a wonderful PTSA and are grateful for all of the wonderful energy they bring to our school. Please join us to find ways that you can be active in your child’s school! Also, please join us on Thursday, May 24, for our Memorial Day Assembly. It is in our gym beginning at 9 am. There is no school May 25-28 in observance of Memorial Day.

Our new school is coming along wonderfully. We fully expect to be able to move into the new building over Winter Break December 2012…this year!!! The gym, music building and all portables will be removed this summer. Our students will begin the new school-year with PE classes in the new school. Band will be held in the library and Choir will be in the cafeteria when we return in September.

Thank you for sharing your students with us!

Hudtloff recognized for School of Distinction

For the third year in a row, Hudtloff has earned special state recognition as “School of Distinction” for being in the top five percent of most improvement over a five year period compared to all other schools in Washington State. This means a great deal to all of us as it indicates that we are on the right path for providing our students with a rigorous education that will prepare them for citizenship, college, and careers. This recognition is sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa, The Center for Educational Effectiveness, and other state organizations.
