We are implementing Rebecca Sitton's approach to learning and correctly spelling high frequency words. There are 1200 words in Sitton Spelling Sourcebook Series by Egger Publishing, Inc. Fifth graders are responsible for words 1 through 675 this year.

There is NO weekly spelling list. There is a "No Excuses" spelling words list. The goal is that the No excuses words are spelled and used correctly in students' everyday writing. 5th Grade words go from 1 to 100 as Priority spelling words. These are the most frequently used words in the English language.

Students are also exposed to "Topical Words" which are ones that correlate with our grade level reading, math, social studies and science curricula. We will be assessing student need by frequent spelling checks using their daily writing projects in all areas.
