1st Trimester K-2 Physical Education Activities

The following activities were taught in Physical Education during the 1st
trimester to your son or daughter: Yarn Balls, Small Rubber Balls, Bean Bags,
Hula Hoops, Jump Roping, Pin Soccer, and Capture The Chicken, and Star Wars.
These activities work toward developing fundamental physical skills and
progress to complex movement activities as physically able to accomplish. The
expectations at each grade level will be age appropriate. The physical skills
they are to develop are locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative, and how to
use them when the body is in motion. They form the foundation of gross motor
coordination and involve large muscle movement.
Locomotor skills would be ones used to move the body from one place to
another: i.e., running, skipping, and galloping. They form the foundation of
gross motor coordination and involve large muscle movement. Nonlocomotor
skill can be defined as bending and stretching, pushing and pulling, and
raising and lowering. Manipulative skills come into play when a child handles
some kind of object. Most of these skills involve the hands and feet, which
leads to better hand-eye and foot-eye coordination. Manipulative skills are
the bases for many game skills. The attitude and behavior of your son or
daughter will be reflected in their effort portion of the report card.
