COURSE DESCRIPTIONCognitive Tutor geometry runs through a typical geometry curriculum but integrates probability, statistics, and logic. This class utilizes cooperative learning and computer based learning. Students will work alone or in teams to progress through the text, create formal and informal projects and present information. Students will spend 1-2 day a week working on the Cognitive Tutor software. The software gives students individual practice with instant feedback.
OUTLINEThe first semester will cover approximately chapters 1-6 as well as a unit on probability and -Statistics from the Algebra 1 text. The second semester will cover chapters 7-12 tentatively in the text. Students will work at their own pace on the computer program striving to meet the goals described below in the computer section of grading.

Consequences for behavioral infractions include, but are not limited to:
ATTENDANCEGood attendance is imperative to success in this class. However, should a day be missed it is the student’s responsibility to keep with the pace of the class. If a computer lab day is missed student will need to make arrangements to come in before/ after school to make up time.
GRADINGStudents will be graded in five areas: participation, Assignments, Computer progress, quizzes, and tests.
1. Participation (approximately 10% of student grade) Students will need to maintain an organized neat math binder as well as an up to date workbook.
2. Assignments (approximately 15% of student grade) Students will be given homework nightly and expected to be ready to go over it the following day. Incomplete work is unacceptable and will receive no credit.
3. Computer (approximately 25% of student grade) Students will be graded on sections completed, number of skills mastered, and time spent on the computer.
4. Quizzes (approximately 20% of student grade) *Quizzes will be given periodically to evaluate student learning. Students may retake one quiz each quarter.
5. Tests (approximately 30% of student grade) *Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. Students should come prepared for the test.
* All students caught cheating will receive a zero. Talking during quizzes is not allowed and will be considered cheating.
Tutoring CreditStudents will be given 5 extra participation points for coming to tutoring. Tutoring is offered Tuesdays/ Thursdays before/after school and at lunch. To receive credit student must be actively engaged in math for at least 30 minutes.
Semester grades will be determined by 45% quarter 1 grade 45% quarter 2 grade, and 10% final semester test.
