“We are here to gain the
knowledge, skills and behaviors to reach our personal goals for a successful
future.”
Within
the Lakewood Career Academy (LCA) community, we recognize that all people have
dignity and deserve respect. It is, therefore, our obligation as individuals
and as a group to foster and maintain a climate of dignity and respect at LCA.
To reach this goal we ask
you to carefully consider and agree to the following community ideals,
personal goals, and rigorous expectations.
I agree to:
• Strive to reach my
goals, follow the school mission, and habits of work.
• Have a positive attitude
and professional language.
• Respect the rights of my
peers to learn and my teachers to teach.
• Give as much of myself
to my classes as I can.
• Ask for help when I get
frustrated or feel stuck.
• Come prepared to learn.
• Treat others the way I
want to be treated.
• Remember that I have the
power to change.
DRESS
The way I dress reflects
my attitudes about school and myself. The LCA dress code helps me maintain a
sense of self-respect as well as the respect of others.
I understand that:
• Inappropriate
head attire cannot be worn on campus.
• Dress that
interferes with learning or presents a safety hazard is not allowed.
• Clothing which
is revealing, sexually suggestive, or gang, alcohol or drug related, is
prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, low-cut shirts, skirts or
shorts above the mid-thigh, sagging pants, sunglasses, pajamas and slippers.
In cases of questionable attire, the administration reserves the right to make
final decisions on what is appropriate for the school environment.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
I will keep my cell phone
and music player turned off and put away during class. I understand that any
exceptional use of such devices is at the teacher’s discretion. A phone is
available in classrooms to use with teacher permission. I understand when
using the LCA computers, no games, music, food or drink is allowed.
ATTENDANCE
I know Lakewood Career
Academy is a closed, no-smoking campus. My health and safety are important so
there are certain "off-limits" areas I need to avoid; for example: parking
lots, areas near the street, areas that can’t be seen from the building, and
areas belonging to other programs located in the building or around the
campus.
I understand that:
• I have two days
to clear an absence after returning to school or it will be unexcused.
• If I am more than 15 minutes
late to class, I can be considered absent.
• That I am allowed a hall pass
only during the first and last 15 minutes with teacher permission (15/15
classroom rule).
• If I accrue the
equivalent of three consecutive unexcused days, my Career Choices teacher will
contact my parent.
• If I accrue the
equivalent of five unexcused days in a month, or reach eight in a year, a
parent conference will be scheduled to discuss a return to my home school.
• Staff is
available to help me develop strategies to improve my attendance.
RESPECT
I understand that:
• I am expected to
cooperate with members of the LCA staff, administration, and other campus
staff.
• Acts of
defiance, acts disrupting the educational process, or acts displaying a
disregard for cooperation are disrespectful, will not be tolerated and will
result in appropriate disciplinary action.
• Harassment,
bullying, cyber-bullying, intimidation, fighting or mistreating anyone because
of their race, age, gender, religion, or sexual orientation are inappropriate
behaviors that will result in appropriate disciplinary action.
• Involvement with
illicit drugs, alcohol or weapons of any kind is a violation of Lakewood
Career Academy and clover Park School District policy and is subject to severe
disciplinary consequences including expulsion.
• Academic
dishonesty, cheating or plagiarism (the use of other people’s words or
material without giving credit), will subject me to discipline that may
include the loss of credit, lower grades or withdrawal.
• Staff is
available to help me develop strategies to improve my skills in dealing with
others.
* Food and drink
is not permitted in the computer labs.
* Music and gaming sites are not permitted on the computers during
instructional hours
