Does my child have homework?
Yes! Every night Monday thru Thursday your child has at least 20 minutes of
homework that is due the following day. In addition, it is recommended that
your child reads 20 mins. a night. Homework is always used to review
skills that have been taught in school, so if your child is struggling
please don't stress out for hours about it. Just let me know via a note that
your child is struggling and we'll work on it at school that day. Also, I am
flexible in giving homework for future nights early. just as long as HW is
here the day it is assigned.
What is your absent or late policy for homework?
Absent Work:
Students who are absent have as many school days as they are
gone, plus an extra day to complete and turn in absent work. For example, if
a student is absent Monday and Tuesday, they have until the following Monday
to turn in their work with no penalty.
Late Work:
"Homework, Don't leave home without it!"
Late work is strongly discouraged! It is disrespectful of the
teacher's time and expectations. The day an assignment is late, your child
will attend 'Study Hall' during their lunch recess to finish their work.
Book Reports and projects will have a cut off date, and NO late assignments
will be accepted after that. Students and parents will be notified, in
writing, prior.
That said, there are always exceptions. Please notify the teacher, in
advance, if there are time concerns about an assignment.
How come I don't get information about classroom and school events/activities?
At Lea Hill we have a communication system titled 'Mustang Express'. At the
first of year every child is given a complimentry envelope that is white
with purple lettering. Every Thurday your child will bring this envelope
home and deliver the contents to you. Then you send it back to school for
the following week.
How can I volunteer?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated! First, all volunteers in the
classroom must fill out a Washington State Patrol background check (good for
two years); this includes chaperones for field trips, too. I always have a
number of jobs for parent helpers including copying and preparing
materials,or working with students. I also have "take home" jobs for parents
that want to help, but aren't available during school hours.
What is a 'Comfort Kit' and why does my child need it?
The Comfort Kit is a gallon size Ziploc baggie (clearly labled with your
child's name) with a variety of items, in the event that we are unable to
leave school grounds for a prolonged period of time. Suggested items:
granola bars (2)
dried fruit (such as raisins)
hard candy (ie. lifesavers)
small juice/water (2)
non-perishable snack

small flash light or light stick
VERY tiny toy for entertianment
large trash bags (2-3, these have a variety of uses)
