Message from the Principal

Hello Mann Families,

It is without pleasure that I write this month to inform our families that our school was identified by the state of Washington (OSPI-Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction http://www.k12.wa.us/ ) as a continuously low performing school. This identification is based on student achievement data over the past three years. While I am not proud of being identified as such, I am extremely proud of the pro-active reaction of our staff. Almost immediately after hearing this news our staff began to plan for ways to support improved student achievement this year. We will be convening a “Turn Around School” team that will work with the support of our school district to review data, instructional practice and school systems/structures and create a two year plan to increase student achievement in a sustainable manner, to move us off and keep us off of this list. I will be seeking parent representation to be a part of this process. We value your input and know that you are in important factor to student success. Our goal is to provide your students with the highest level of instruction and academic rigor so that they are fully prepared for their high school courses in preparation for post high school instruction. If you have any questions regarding this message please give me a call.

PARENTS OF MANN: Please check out the flyer you will receive with this month’s newsletter. We invite parents to get to know each other and learn how you can be involved here at the school. There will be a meeting at the base on Feb. 6 and one here at Mann on Feb 9. We look forward seeing you.

ATTENDANCE: Parents/Guardians. We are finding that student attendance is becoming an area of concern. Even excused absences have a negative impact on student learning. If your student has a higher than normal absence rate (7 or more absences) you will be contacted by our counselor, Ms. Hyde and/or our interventionist, Mr. Luce to discuss support for increasing your student’s attendance rate.

Half day attendance is also an area of concern. Our ½ days are important instructional days. Students have the opportunity on 1/2 days to get caught up on work and to get extra individual support from teachers. We have made intentional scheduling efforts to insure that students have all 6 class period on our ½ days. Please make sure that you students are in attendance on ½ days.

Dress Code and Student Behavior Expectations:

These expectations will be reviewed with students during the first week of school and throughout the school year. I hope you were able to receive the letter I sent home in July regarding these expectations. We will send more information home with students during the first week of school. This information will also be available in your students’ agenda books. Please take time to review this information with your students and sign and return the acknowledgement page in the student agenda.

Thank you for your partnership, and remember: Your Future Is Now!
