Message from the Principal

Hello Mann Families,

As we approach our MSP testing window, I would like to ask you to take some time as a family to discuss the importance of students doing their very best on this assessment. The word we use at school is perseverance. Staying focused and giving best effort is a key component to students doing the “little” things that make the difference in getting 2 points or 3 points on the test items. Assessments such as the MSP and MAP have a huge impact on student academic placement. We want to make sure that students who need support get it and also that students who could avoid extra instruction in math and reading don’t get assigned those courses just because they might not have been fully engaged in taking the assessments.

Well rested and well fed students are able to persevere on these assessments better than their counter parts who come to school without a good night of sleep and who have not eaten breakfast. Please be sure that your student(s) get a good night of sleep and eat breakfast (whether at home or here at school) every day.

Reverse Suspensions: As we get closer to the end of the school year, I want to let you know about reverse suspensions. This is where, a student who has violated a school rule where the consequence is a suspension, the suspension will happen from the last day of school counting back. For example, a 3 day suspension would be assessed on the last 3 days of school. This will only happen if the cause of the suspension does not require immediate removal from school. The rationale is to preserve as much of the academic focus time for students as possible and to give the consequences at a time when the end of year fun activities are being held.

Field Trips and end of year events: Please remind your students that in order to be eligible for these events they must be in good standing both academically and behaviorally. Information on events will be coming from grade level teachers soon. There will be deadlines for paying fees and turning in permission slips. Please attend to those deadlines as it is not fair for me to hold some families/students to the deadline and allow others to turn in items after the deadline.

Dress Code and Student Behavior Expectations:
These expectations will be reviewed with students during the first week of school and throughout the school year. I hope you were able to receive the letter I sent home in July regarding these expectations. We will send more information home with students during the first week of school. This information will also be available in your students’ agenda books. Please take time to review this information with your students and sign and return the acknowledgement page in the student agenda.

Thank you for your partnership, and remember: Your Future Is Now!
