eSurg Tree
This is the tree that was on display
at eSurg's office in Pioneer Square. If you look closely, you will see
the thank you cards and holiday cards that C-2 made for eSurg hanging
from the tree's branches!
"WIZARD OF OZ"
FIELD TRIP
On Dec. 2, the students in C-1 and
C-2 took a field trip to the Seattle Children's Theatre to watch a live
performance of "The Wizard of Oz". It was a magical, wonderful, play -
as good as anything you would see on Broadway in New York! (We were not
allowed to take any photographs inside of the theatre.) Following the
performance, we ate lunch at the Seattle Center "Center House". The
Center House was completely decorated for "WinterFest". The students
were especially excited to see the miniature train and village up close.
"LA MARIPOSA"
FIELD TRIP
C-1, C-2, and C-3 students visited
the downtown Seattle branch of the Seattle Public Library on December 3.
We watched a performance of the play "La Mariposa" in the library's
auditorium. The play was based on the book of the same name, and was
performed in both English and Spanish. Many of the students had never
visited this library before, and enjoyed riding the escalators and
looking at the thousands of fantastic books in the Children's Library!
MAKING
GINGERBREAD HOUSES
The students had a wonderful time
making some very colorful and creative gingerbread houses during the
last week of school before the Winter Break! When everyone had finished
their gingerbread house, we made a visit to the Maple office to show off
our hard work. The students were very excited to take their gingerbread
houses home to share with their families.
FAMOUS COMPOSERS
The second graders have been
learning about famous composers from Ms. Young, who visits on the first
Thursday of each month. She shares photos of each composer, teaches us
some history about each composer's life, and then plays the music of
that composer. We have learned about the life and music of composers
Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven,
and Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
MISSION
DELICIOUS/EAT BETTER,FEEL BETTER PROGRAM, PART 2
On December 10, we had a follow-up
lesson to our October Mission Delicious/Eat Better, Feel Better lesson,
led by Ms. Rossman. During this lesson, the C-2 students got to taste
various vegetables (beets, cabbage). After tasting the vegetables, the
students had to fill out a characteristics chart to describe each one.
