INAUGURATION DAY, JAN. 20, 2009 All of the second graders from C Pod gathered in the C-2 classroom on the morning of Jan. 20, to watch the inauguration of President Obama and Vice-President Biden. We were especially interested because one of our classmates was in Washington, D.C. at the inauguration!
LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION, JAN. The annual Lunar New Year celebration was held in Maple's gym/lunchroom. Students and staff wore costumes from various cultures and paraded into the gym, led by lion dancers from Franklin High School and lion dancers from Maple School. The lion dancers then put on a very exciting performance for the audience!
EAT BETTER, FEEL BETTER PROGRAM The C-2 students continued participating in the Eat Better, Feel Better program during January and February. Ms. Rossman visited us on Wednesday afternoons to teach us about the food pyramid and about the foods in each section of the pyramid. We learned all about the dairy group, and got to taste three different kinds of milk and make fruit smoothies. We made a yummy teriyaki rice bowl with vegetables and tofu. We made delicious black bean quesadillas, and also made a fruit salad with many different types of fruit. Thank you, Ms. Rossman, for teaching us about the importance of good nutrition!
EVERYDAY MATH In EveryDay Math, we have been practicing making change and counting money. We have also been studying the differences and similarities between attribute blocks.
