MAPLE BARBECUE
The annual Maple Barbecue lunch was held
on May 15. There was a huge turnout of friends and family to the barbecue, and
the weather was beautiful! The barbecue was a success thanks to the many
volunteers on hand who cooked the hamburgers, served the food, etc. Thank you,
volunteers!
HUSKY FOOTBALL PLAYERS
VISIT
On May 14, members of the University of
Washington football team visited Maple School. They talked to the students
about the importance of getting a college education, practicing good study
habits, and working hard!
SCIENCE
Our current science unit is called
"Liquids and Solids". Here are some greats photo of the students studying the
properties of three different liquids: water, corn oil, and corn syrup.
READER'S THEATRE PLAY
BY MRS. PROJANSKY'S READERS
On May 12, Mrs. Projansky's second grade
readers performed a play in C-2 called "The Foolish Little Hare". The students
did a wonderful job of acting, and we enjoyed their performance very much!
MOTHER'S DAY
We made these beautiful "rainbow fish" out
of torn pieces of construction paper for our moms for Mother's Day. We got the
idea for this project from our Pen Pals in New Braunfels, Texas!
READING IN THE MAPLE
MONARCH GARDEN
On Friday afternoons when the weather is
nice, the C-2 All-Stars enjoy taking their books outside and reading in the
Maple Monarch Garden area.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT
PROGRAM
The C-2 All-Stars have been participating
in the Jr. Achievement program, "Our Community", throughout the month of May.
We have two terrific volunteer instructors from Wells Fargo Bank. The students
have been learning about many important parts of their community: businesses,
government, taxes, unit production and assembly line production, making good
choices, and the role of money in the community. Of the five lessons in the
"Our Community" program, the favorite lesson was the one in which we learned
the difference between unit production and assembly line production by making
paper doughnuts!
MERCER MIDDLE SCHOOL
READERS VISIT C-2
On May 22, sixth graders from Mercer
Middle School visited our classroom to share books that they had written.
Then the C-2 All-Stars got to share some of their writing with the sixth
graders. Everyone had a wonderful time reading their writing and giving
compliments to one another! Thank you, Mercer Middle School sixth graders,
for donating the polar bear book to our classroom library!

HARBOR TOUR/WATERFRONT
SIGHTSEEING FIELD TRIP
C-2 and C-1 enjoyed their last field trip
on May 27, 2009. We visited the Seattle waterfront to take a one-hour narrated
Argosy Harbor Tour. We departed from Pier 55 at 11:00AM sharp. It was a
beautiful warm sunny day, and we loved every minute of the boat ride! For some
of the students this was their first time aboard a boat. We saw many sights
while out on the water, including container ships loaded with cargo. Following
our boat ride, we ate lunch at Waterfront Park. Then we did some "waterfront
sightseeing" as we headed north along the waterfront to Pier 66, where the
school bus met us for the ride back to Maple.
