FRANZ BAKERY TOUR FIELD TRIP Our last field trip of the school year took place on June 10th, 2011! We visited the Franz Bakery plant, located on 6th Avenue, near Safeco Field, with the students from C-1. Our tour guide, Rachel, told us the history of Franz Bakery, and other amazing facts (900,000 loaves of bread are baked each week at the bakery!)! Then Rachel took us on a one-hour guided tour of the bakery. We were not allowed to take photos inside of the actual bakery, but could take a few photos just before entering the bakery. After our tour, we got to enjoy a tasty snack of bread with butter and drink some apple juice in the Tour Room. Then we got to play some games and make some projects while C-1 was taking their tour. As we left the bakery to board our school bus, Rachel gave everyone a Franz treat box filled with wonderful goodies (even a mini-loaf of bread!)! It was a fantastic field trip, and the students couldn't wait to get back to school to write their thank you letters to Franz!

BEACON HILL LIBRARIAN VISITS
"BOOK REPORT CHAINS" This year, the "Second Grade All-Stars" completed 903 book reports (over 250 more than last year!)! Each time a student finished a book report and had it checked by me, we added it to their book report "chain"! By the end of the school year, some students had 3 and 4 chains dangling from the ceiling! We visited the Maple Office on June 17th to share our book reports with Principal Hunter and the Maple office staff. CONGRATULATIONS, C-2, on all of your efforts in reading this year!
BOOK BUDDIES - LAST VISIT
JOKE BOOKS The C-2 students love to tell jokes and riddles to their teacher and to each other! To celebrate the end of a successful school year, they each wrote and illustrated a joke book. We shared and read our jokes with the second graders in Miss King's class (C-1). There was a "comments" page at the back of each joke book for the students to leave each other positive comments about their jokes! This was probably the most popular writing project that we did all school year!
KIDD VALLEY "TEACHER OF THE YEAR" PRESENTATION & SURPRISE ASSEMBLY, June 15, 2011 Thank you, Kidd Valley, for presenting me with this wonderful award! I am overwhelmed and am so honored at being chosen. Thank you, Michelle, for nominating me! Thank you for rewarding my students with Kids Meals at Kidd Valley! Thank you for the $500 check to purchase school supplies for the classroom - my students have already brainstormed a long list of supplies that we should buy!
PORTFOLIOS At the end of the school year, I give back to my students the portfolios of their work that I have been collecting all year long. These portfolios get pretty large (I tend to save lots of the students' papers!). I have the students organize their portfolios in any way that they like. I gave them paperclips if they wanted to put their work in groups. It took the students about 45 minutes to sort and organize their portfolios! They were very proud of all of the hard work that they had done this school year!
2nd GRADERS VISITED 3rd GRADE/1st GRADERS VISITED 2nd GRADE On the second to last day of the school year, the second graders visited the third grade classrooms in D Pod. They met the third grade teachers and got to see what their new classrooms look like. While the second graders were in D Pod, the first graders were visiting C Pod, to see what their new classrooms look like!
END-OF-YEAR CLEANING! During the last week of the school year, the C-2 students cleaned our classroom from top to bottom! The students did an amazing job, as you can see from these photos! They organized the book boxes/baskets, washed their desks, washed their chairs, scrubbed the plastic "drawers" (baskets) that go inside of their desks, and helped organize the rest of our classroom supplies (rulers, colored pencils, etc.) in preparation for next year's second graders. Thank you, C-2, for all of your help! I really appreciated all of your hard work!
