FIELD DAY

Everybody's favorite day of the school year, Field Day, was held on the afternoon of June 16th! During Field Day, Maple students get to visit as many stations as possible to participate in fun events, such as egg-on-a-spoon races, basketball free throw shooting, scarf juggling, etc. Students earn points at each station, and then redeem their points for prizes at the Prize Stations. At the end of Field Day, everyone gets to eat popsicles!

MULTI-CULTURAL DANCE ASSEMBLY

The fantastic Multi-Cultural Dance Assembly was held on June 10th! Maple students from all grade levels performed dances from many different cultures. These students had been practicing for many weeks during their lunch recesses. They did a terrific job, and can be very proud of themselves!

"BOOK REPORT CHAINS"

This year, the "Second Grade All-Stars" completed over 400 book reports! Each time a student finished a book report and had it checked by me, we added it to their book report "chain"! By the end of the school year, some students had 3 and 4 chains dangling from the ceiling! We visited the Maple Office on June 9th to share our book reports with Principal Hunter and the Maple office staff. CONGRATULATIONS, C-2, on all of your efforts in reading this year!

SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT

The finals of Maple's First Annual Scrabble Tournament was held on the afternoon of June 11th, in the Maple gym. One of the C-2 "Second Grade All-Stars" competed in the finals against a third grader, and we were there to cheer her on! By the end of the tournament, the score was a tie! CONGRATULATIONS!

JOKE BOOKS

The C-2 students love to tell jokes and riddles to their teacher and to each other! To celebrate the end of a successful school year, they each wrote and illustrated a joke book. We shared these joke books with the Maple office staff, and then met with the second graders in Ms. Nettke's and Ms. Koeller's class (C-1) to read the jokes. There was a "comments" page at the back of each joke book for the students to leave each other positive comments about their jokes! This was probably the most popular writing project that we did all school year!

PORTFOLIOS

At the end of the school year, I give back to my students the portfolios of their work that I have been collecting all year long. These portfolios get pretty large (I tend to save lots of the students' papers!). I have the students organize their portfolios in any way that they like. I gave them paperclips if they wanted to put their work in groups. It took the students about 45 minutes to sort and organize their portfolios! They were very proud of all of the hard work that they had done this school year!

END-OF-YEAR CLEANING!

On the second-to-the-last day of the school year (June 18), the C-2 students cleaned our classroom from top to bottom! The students did an amazing job, as you can see from these photos! They organized the book boxes/baskets, washed their desks, washed their chairs, scrubbed the plastic "drawers" (baskets) that go inside of their desks, and helped organize the rest of our classroom supplies (rulers, colored pencils, etc.) in preparation for next year's second graders. Thank you, C-2, for all of your help! I really appreciated all of your hard work!

GOOD-BYE! HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! WE'LL SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER!
