Most Asked QuestionsThis page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How are birthdays celebrated in Mrs. Trudnowski's class? Original items on this page are Copyright 2009 Diane Trudnowski. Birthdays are celebrated in a unique way in my class! Instead of bringing cupcakes or cookies, you are invited to donate a book to the classroom library! There is a box in the classroom labelled The Birthday Book Box. When it is your birthday, you may bring a book to school for placing in the Birthday Book Box. This does not have to be a brand new book, it can be a book from your collection at home. Inside the front cover of the book you should write a short note that says, This book is presented to C-2 by (your name) in honor of my birthday! Then be sure to write the date of your birthday. I will have you present your birthday book to the class during storytime! You can be proud that you have helped our classroom library grow with your book donation! What are the words to the Maple Creed? I know that our country was built by people of all races, and I know that people of all races keep our country great! What is a M.O.O.S.E. binder? What does M.O.O.S.E. stand for? M.O.O.S.E. stands for Managing Our Organizational Skills Everyday! Mrs. T. chose the name M.O.O.S.E. because she is a huge baseball fan, and the mascot for the Seattle Mariners baseball team is The Moose! Each student has their own M.O.O.S.E. binder inside of their desk. There are pockets for each subject area (Reading, Math, etc.) inside of the M.O.O.S.E. In addition, there is a map of the United States, the Classroom and Playground Rules of Maple School, the Standards for Second Grade (written in kid language), a hundreds chart, a Reading Log, and more. The M.O.O.S.E. binder teaches children to be responsible for their papers/projects/worksheets, etc. in an organized manner (no more hunting for lost papers pushed to the back of the inside of the desk), and helps to keep C-2's desks tidy and neat. The M.O.O.S.E. binder does not get sent home. Will our class get to order from a monthly Book Club? Yes! Mrs. T. sends home Scholastic Lucky Book Club order forms once a month in the Boomerang Envelope. The orders go home on Thursdays, and are due the following Friday. Parents have the option of ordering online (using a credit card) with our special username and password or ordering through the flyers (sending checks made out to Scholastic Book Clubs or cash in a baggie or envelope). I will place our order online, and it will arrive at Maple in about 7 to 10 business days! I like the Scholastic Book Clubs the best because they offer the greatest selection and variety of books at the most affordable prices. C-2's library checkout day/time is on Wednesdays at 12:20PM. I will remind students the day before Library Day that they need to return their library books the next day. However, if students have finished reading their library books before our library day, the library is open at lunch recess. Students may visit the library then to exchange their old books for new ones. In addition, we will have a Library Skills lesson with Ms. Lloyd on Thursdays at 1:30PM. What are the Monarch Jungle Big Toy days for the second grade? The Monarch Jungle days for second graders are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Will we have Pen Pals in second grade? Yes! Our pen pals are second graders at Memorial Elementary School, in New Braunfels, Texas. (Can you find New Braunfels, Texas on a map?) Their teacher's name is Mrs. Borgfeld, and she is Mrs. Trudnowski's cousin! Mrs. Borgfeld and I have matched C-2 students with students in Mrs. Borgfeld's class. We will be writing letters to these students throughout this school year. What are the favorite things that kids like to do when it is Rainy Day Recess? The number one favorite thing to do during rainy day recess is getting to use the computers in C-2! The next most favorite things to do are build things with the Lincoln Logs, the Legos, and the wooden geoblocks, play checkers, solve picture puzzles, play card games, and draw pictures on our class easels. Even though we don't like it when it rains, we LOVE rainy day recess! What is the Boomerang Envelope? The Boomerang Envelope is a large manila envelope that is sent home every Thursday. Inside this envelope parents and students will find corrected papers, newsletters, book order forms, field trip permission slips, etc. Parents need to sign the form on the front of the envelope next to the date it was sent home. All papers should be left at home (unless there is something that needs to be returned, such as a signed permission slip), and the envelope returned empty. Boomerang Envelopes are due on Friday morning, thus the name Boomerang - Mrs. T. sends them out on Thursday and they come back in on Friday! |
