On May 9, 2002, we had some very special
visitors to our school! Members of the Seattle
Mariners baseball team came to Maple to remind
us to be Drug-free, show Respect, get a good Education,
start each day with a positive Attitude, and be Motivated
in all that we do (D.R.E.A.M.)!
Mariners Education Day was held on May 9, and at 1:30PM
Maple School was visited by Manager Lou Piniella, Ichiro,
Edgar Martinez, Bret Boone, Mark McLemore, Assistant
Coach John McLaren, and new pitcher Justin Kaye. Oh,
and we can't leave out...the Mariner Moose!
The D.R.E.A.M. Team of Mariners players and coaches
spoke to the Maple students about the importance of having
goals in their life, and being able to achieve these goals
by following all of the letters that the word D.R.E.A.M.
stands for.
The Mariners also showed the students a highlights
video from their fantastic 2001 season, which got the
crowd of Maple fans really clapping and cheering!
For the grand finale, the second grade students from
our class and Miss King's class sang "Take Me Out To The
Ballgame" (all of the original verses) to the team and to
the audience. A fantastic time was had by all, and then
the Mariners players and coaches had to leave to head
to Safeco Field to prepare for their game that night.
The C-2 second graders wrote articles all about this visit.
