Mount St. Helens
Mount St. Helens is a large volcano located in southwest Washington State,
about 80 miles from Seattle. On May 18, 1980, Mt. St. Helens had a catastrophic
eruption which took people's lives and devastated the landscape. It is now 28 years
later and Mt. St. Helens has become active again. She has had some minor
eruptions of ash and steam in the past two years.
There are a number of wonderful websites that are devoted to Mt. St. Helens.
Here are some that you may want to visit:

Official Site of the Mt. St. Helens National Monument

Mr. Trudnowski and I visited Mt. St. Helens in August of 2005. The visitor's center
is within five miles of the mountain. Below are some of the photos that we took.
On the day that we were there, the mountain was giving off some steam and ash,
which you can see in the second photo. It made me just a little bit nervous to be
so close to the mountain!
