View of the New York City skyline
At the end of February, 2004, I went to New York
City as a member of Scholastic Books' National
Teacher Advisory Board. This is the view of the
New York skyline from the airplane.
Conference Room at Scholastic
I attended important meetings at Scholastic's
headquarters in Soho, New York. There were
23 other teachers there from all over the
United States. It was nice to meet so many
new people and make new friends.
Scholastic's Carpet
The carpet at Scholastic's headquarters shows
the company's credo (what is important to
them). I found myself reading their carpet
every time I walked in the halls!
Clifford the Big Red Dog
Clifford the Big Red Dog is Scholastic's
mascot. Everywhere you looked at Scholastic's
headquarters you would see Clifford!
Scholastic Store
The only Scholastic Store in the United
States is located right next door to Scholastic's
headquarters. The Store was a wonderful
place to visit!
Lifesize Clifford!
In the middle of the Scholastic Store
was a LIFESIZE Clifford the Big Red Dog!
He was enormous!
Canal Street
This is Canal Street, one of the busiest
street markets in New York City. The hotel
where I stayed was within walking distance
of here.
Mr. Trudnowski
Mr. Trudnowski was able to join me on
this trip, although I hardly saw him during
the entire trip (I was at Scholastic most of
the time at meetings). I did get a few hours
off to sightsee. Here we are waiting for a
subway train.
Central Park
Here I am sitting on a park bench in
Central Park.
Plaza Hotel
The Plaza Hotel, where the story of
Eloise takes place. This is the hotel that Eloise
was supposed to have lived in when she was
a little girl.
Riding the Subway
Here I am holding on tight while
riding the fast-moving subway train!
Ground Zero
It was important to me to pay my respects
at Ground Zero, the former site of the World
Trade Center.
Ground Zero
A sign with the names of some of those
who lost their lives at the World Trade Center.
Support
A loving show of support for the police
and firefighters.
Goodbye, New York!
The view from the airplane as we left
New York. The large, rectangular piece of
land in the middle of the picture is Central
Park. It was an exciting, intense, fast, and
humbling trip.
