How do I get make-up work when I am absent?
When a student is absent, another student keeps a 'Study Buddy' for them and
records assignments and collects any papers they may need to complete make-
up work. This packet is left in their 1st period class at the end of the
day, or a parent can call the attendance office and request it be left there
(after 2:30) for them to pick up.
--------------------------------------
How long do I have to complete make-up work from an absence?
Students have the same number of days to complete work as they were absent -
example: absent two days, two extra days to complete work.
In the case of an extended illness, extra time may be given to allow the
student time to catch up.
Teachers are available after school on most days to help out any student
with instruction on make-up work.
--------------------------------------
How often will we get Progress Reports?
Progress Reports from core classes will be sent home every two weeks.
They are handed out every other Wednesday.
The Progress Report cover sheet needs to be signed by a parent and returned
to the teacher. Parents should keep the actual Progress Report.
--------------------------------------
Is there a consequence for failing to return a Progress Report?
Yes. Students who have not returned their Progress Report cover sheet by the
following Monday will need to call a parent and inform them that they have
been assigned After School detention on Tuesday.
However, students returning Progress Reports receive points for returning
them in a timely manner.
Returned on Thursday - 5 points
Friday - 4 points
Monday - 3 points
Tuesday or later = after school detention and 1 point when
returned.
--------------------------------------
Do 7th grade teachers accept late work?
No. It is our responsibility to teach habits that lead to success.
Therefore, we will clearly define due dates and work not turned in on the
due date will receive 1 point as an indicator that it was turned in at some
point.
We realize that there are emergencies that happen in life. Each
quarter you will receive two late work "passes." One is for 100% and one is
for 50% on a late assignment. Complete the late work and turn it in with
one of these passes for either 100% or 50% credit.
--------------------------------------
If a student does not understand an assignment, what should they do?
Ask questions in class and talk to the teacher to get clarification on
directions.
We are ususally available after school to provide extra help on an
assignment.

How can students raise a low grade in math?
The most important thing is to turn in ALL assignments ON TIME.
Missing work is the biggest factor contributing to low grades.
If a math student receives a low grade on an assignment, they are able to do
corrections on the assignment to raise their score. Speak with the teacher
to make sure you understand what you did incorrectly, then correct all
incorrect problems on a math correction sheet, attach it to the assignment
and turn it in again. When it is corrected and returned, it will have
your 'new score' and the grade on that assignment will be changed in the
gradebook.
Corrected work must be completed in a timely manner (1-2 days after
receiving it).
