All About Miss Chris

Hi, I am Miss Chris, my last name can be fairly hard to pronouce so Miss
Chris is perfect. The 2012-2013 school year will be my sixth year of
teaching. I have taught second grade four times and I taught a 2/3 split.
This will be my first year teaching just third grade. I am excited because
most of my students are returning to me. We will have a change of scene as we
will be located in a different pod this year. I also cannot wait to meet all
of the new to Oakbrook students and those coming to my class.

Education:
Well as for elementary school I moved around a lot. I went to FIVE different
elementary schools. For junior high and high school I got to stay in the
same area but I still moved around. I went to Ballou Jr. High and Rogers
High School in the Puyallup School District. After that I went to Pacific
Lutheran University from 2002-2006 and got my Bachelors in Art majoring in
Anthropology and History. I then went through the Master's program at PLU in
2006-2007 and completed my student teaching at Dower Elementary School right
here in Clover Park. I could not ask for a better school district. I love
working here.

Why Anthropology and History? Well in high school I knew I wanted to be a
teacher, but when I was in my first year at PLU my family moved again. I
moved into the residence halls at the school and needed to be in school year
round. The Master's program was 14 months (year round) so I used
Anthropology and History to get me there. I love the two areas and I learned
a lot. I was able to get some great experiences on my quest to becoming a
teacher.

Recently I just completed my National Board Portfolio in Literacy: Reading
Language Arts. I am waitng to hear my scores this November.

Personal:
I like to be busy. In my spare time I work on remodeling and house projects
and on nice days I like to work in the garden. The yard is a work in
progress.

I like to scrapbook and put photo albums together. I love to watch movies. I
really like Disney and mystery movies. I dislike SCARY movies and don't like
it when people discuss them around me.

My parents and my youngest sister and her husband live in Northern Utah. My
middle sister and her husband live in Tampa, Florida. My sister is Florida is
expecting and I cannot wait to see my first niece or nephew in January 2013.
My mom is a lunch lady and one brother-in-law is a school custodian. As you
can see we are very active in the school department.

I have two dogs. I have Chubbs who is a black lab/sharpei mix. He is six
years old. We also have Chevy. He is a Finnish Spitz/German Shepherd mix. He
will be four years old in December. Being a doggie parent is really fun!

Oh and a weird tidbit: I do not like candy or cheetos...how strange right. I

like candy as a kid. The cheeto story is a good one especially for the
childhood fascination with the gross.

Mission For The Class

In my room we foster respect for everyone. Everyone is important and
deserves respect, in my room every student will realize and be a part of
this. Students will know how and why class learning and lessons are important
and how it will shape them into being active members of our wonderful
Oakbrook community and beyond.
