Guidance

Welcome Newbees!

At Oakbrook Elementary we consider how good character can make our schools, home, community and even world a better place. The character word for this month is Hospitality. Mrs. LaShells will hold a Newbee party for all the first timers here at Oakbrook. We will get to know each other and talk about ways we can make them feel welcome at out school.  The Newbees will get to nominate people who have gone out of their way to help them feel comfortable and happy at our school. During the Spirit Assembly each month. Those who have been nominated are recognized get to choose a book. Inside the cover of the book we place a sticker recognizing your child and his/her accomplishments.

Beginning in October the whole school will focus on the character trait Wellness.  We will nominate kids and staff who are making a special effort to keep their bodies healthy through and fitness nutrition.

Parents please remember that the school counselor is here to help your child with anything that mig ht create a barrier to learning.  I can work on anything from designing modifications and accommodations for struggling learners to helping families through emotional crisis.  I have access to many support services in our community including food, clothing, medical and dental services.  Please let me or your child’s teacher know if there is something that is keeping them from doing their best and enjoying their school experience.
