I began teaching at Purdy Elementary part-time in February 2007, and was hired
full-time for the 2007-2008 school year. Prior to working at Purdy, I was a
teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District for three years. I took an
eight-year hiatus to stay home with my two kids, Dustin, 13 and Marleyna,11,
both Purdy students.
Before teaching, I spent eight years as a newspaper reporter in Central
California and the Los Angeles area.
I received my bachelor's degree in journalism from Fresno State University -
Go Bulldogs! I earned my teaching credential from California State University,
Northridge.
My husband, Darrin, is the sports editor for the Tacoma News Tribune. We moved
to Gig Harbor from the Los
Angeles area in March, 2000.
I want to provide a positive, nurturing environment where young
people love to learn and are always seeking knowledge. I hope always to
encourage kindness, respect toward others, understanding, acceptance, and a
sense of community.
