Weekly Newsletter

Dear Families,

Father Bowman gave a wonderful homily at Mass on the 12th that inspired the first grade to really
reflect on what they were thankful for. They wrote beautiful letters to God thanking him for the thing
that they were most grateful. Please stop by when you get a chance and read the letters.

In reading, we continue to work on using our schema to make connections. This week we discussed that
all connections are not created equal. We talked about how some connections help us better understand
the story, but some do not. When reading with your child, try to get them to reflect on how their
connection helps them understand the story, or if it does not why not.

In writing, we continue our unit on Small Moments. This week we learned how to better plan our stories.
We also talked about the difference between drawing and sketching as a way to help us plan out our
stories.

In math, we continue our work on unit 3. This week we worked on adding and subtracting on the
number line as well as creating number models for addition and subtraction number stories.

Finally, I am a bit concerned about what some of the children are choosing to eat at lunch. Please
remember that when your child chooses to order a bagel and cream cheese off the hot lunch menu
instead of the hot lunch selection, that it is supposed to be supplemented by fruits and veggies from
home. Please send some healthy treats to go with the bagel so that they have a well-balanced lunch.
Thank you, and have a lovely weekend.
