SPRING MUSICAL 2012

ANNIE!

Rehearsal Calendar for March as of 3/14 is on my website in the Rehearsal Calendar link. Click on the date for more information about who is called, time, place and other details. Please check back often as the rehearsal process is a fluid one, and scenes and characters may change as the need arises. Thanks so much for your flexibility!

Dear Parents and Students,

I'm really excited about our Spring Musical this year to be held down at the Newport High School Performing Arts Center on Thursday, May 3. We will be presenting ANNIE, a musical about optimism and hope set during the Depression. There are many fascinating characters and great ensemble songs that everyone will have fun with!

Because of the broad scope of this play, we will be scheduling rehearsals for some days after school beginning after Winter break. If you are interested in auditioning for larger roles, it will be very important to know in advance when/if you are available for these rehearsals. Specific details for February will be given out before you leave for Winter break; details for March and April will follow. Rehearsals after Spring break are mandatory. Please look at the key dates carefully and let me know where there are conflicts for you. If I know in advance, I can try to schedule practices accordingly. Depending on the conflict and availability, you may not be cast in a leading role. We will, of course, be rehearsing during music periods as well. ALL STUDENTS participate in the musical in varying capacities. It is, in essence, the final exam for the performing arts skills we will have studied during the third trimester.

The Performing Arts Center at Newport High School is an amazing facility! We only have one opportunity on Monday, April 30, to rehearse on the stage before our performance Thursday evening. We will need to be well prepared to make good use of our limited practice time on site. Sets will be portable, so that we can rehearse with them here. To that end, I would like to get the structures built as soon as possible so we can rehearse with them well in advance of our production. Please let me know (425-802-2168 or smccarthy@stmadsophie.org) if you are willing and able to help with this - we'll need builders as well as painters. I will also need help with costumes and props - we have over sixty students in the musical, and all of them need a particular wardrobe for their characters,- in some cases, more than one! Again, please let me know if you can assist with sewing costumes, or acquiring or making props. It would be wonderful to have a parent coordinator for these areas - sets, costumes, and props. Right now, I'm wearing all of those hats! Your assistance is vital in making this the best show possible - every little bit helps!

Please fill out the attached form noting the conflicts, and in what way you are able to help, and return it to me as soon as possible.

With great anticipation!

Sherri McCarthy
