Hi!
I'm Shelly Backstrom, the morning teacher in room 16 this year. I'm
excitedly planning for this year and look forward to meeting you!
I am currently certified to teach pre-school through 12th grade with an
education degree from Washington State University in Pullman. I was born
and raised just 15 miles from the WSU campus in eastern Washington. I
married my husband, Mark (a native Kelso boy), and moved to Longview in
1984. I taught for the Longview public schools for 8 years during which
time I earned my master's degree in education from WSU - Vancouver. (Go,
Cougs!)
When we started our family, I took leave from teaching, and spent those
years at home with our daughter and son, and heading up many
of the areas of children's ministries at our church.
Now that our children are in High School (at TRCS), it seemed
it was time to return to the classroom. I am grateful for the opportunity
to job share, but please know that your child is getting full-time energy,
effort, and excitement! Mrs. Parsons and I have known each other for many
years. I'm delighted to be working together with her for our fourth year!
My hobbies include scrapbooking, quilting, and working on our house
remodel/addition project. You will also find me enjoying a good latte, a
bite of dark chocolate, or adding to my children's literature collection.
Please know about me that I view my position as a partner to you. Your role
is primary to your child's growth and development, and your influence and
input is key to their success and my effectiveness. I will work to keep
communication lines and classroom doors open to you at all times. We want
the students to grow in their independence, but I do welcome your
involvement where needed. We're off to a wonderful start -- it's going to
be a great year!
Joyfully,
Shelly Backstrom
Greetings,
I'm Denise Parsons, the afternoon teacher in room 16. I am really enjoying
this experience and look forward to a great year!
I earned my bachelor's degree in elementary education at Portland State
University. I finished my master's degree through the University of
Portland in 1990. I taught first grade at Robert Gray for one year and at
CVG for 15.
I was married in 1996 and gained a wonderful husband and two super step-
sons. In 2000 I quit working full-time to stay home with my family and have
been a substitute for Longview schools since 2001. I am very excited to be
sharing this class with Mrs. Backstrom! I know this will be a fun year.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Together I know we will help your students learn and grow.
Sincerely,
Denise Parsons
