The Math Page

WELCOME TO "THE MATH PAGE"

PARENTS,
It is so important that your student follow-up on returned math papers.  Since math is "cumulative" and your child will be seeing similar problems throughout the year, checking missed problems is a must!  I allow corrections on math papers, and I credit 1/2 point for each correction.  I'm always available to help on missed concepts, too.  Let's keep on top of any problems.

For CORRECTIONS, students should get a clean sheet of notebook paper, label it with their name, initial, date, and the lesson number that is being corrected.  Then only the problems being corrected need to be redone.  This new sheet must then be attached to the top of the original assignment and turned in to my basket (hopefully in a timely basis).

Problem solving papers and challenges can be just that--a challenge.  Generally students have at least two days to work on problem solving activities.  It's important that students read over the problem at least twice and spend time thinking about the problem.  We talk about problem solving strategies--such as acting it out, drawing a diagram or picture, and solve a simpler problem.  Parents, you can help by not helping too much.  Encourage your child to talk about the problem and possible strategies to get the answer(s).  After you have evidence that your son/daughter has been working (usually shown by something being written), then give hints.  Please, though, let your child get the thrill of the "Ah-ha!" when he/she solves the problem.
