MMS time is a daily opportunity for students to improve their learning.
Students on the Trafton/Haws team are required to sign up for an academic
teacher at least once each week (unless prior arrangements are made between
students' families and the teaching team have been made). Students who are
absent must plan on using MMS time the day of their return to check in with
all academic teachers & to make up work missed.
At the end of each week, students are given an opportunity to select from the
planned teacher offerings for the subsequent week's MMS times. Each student's
plan is collected and a master schedule is made, posted here & posted in each
team classroom. Changes to student selections are made at the discretion of
team teachers in order to ensure that academics are a priority and student
learning needs are met.
Sometimes MMS time includes mini-lessons designed to provide further
instruction & practice on difficult concepts. Sometimes it is used to provide
additional work time. While some students legitimately need more time to
complete classwork & assessments, MMS time is not intended to be used for
additional time "needed" because poor choices were made during class time.
MMS time is a privilege and students who misuse the time (by goofing around
during MMS time, or not arriving at their assigned/chosen MMS location) will
face consequences including, but not limited to, lunch detention the same day
or the following day.
Beginning 4th quarter 2011, students whose MMS choices do not require teacher
modification (changed schedules are identifiable by an asterisk next to
students' names) will earn extra points toward their effort grades for
academic classes.
