Student Attendance
It’s a fact that students who attend school regularly learn more and are more successful in school than students who do not. Parents who make regular school attendance a priority also are helping their children learn to accept responsibility. And that’s an important lesson for a successful life.
Attendance patterns are formed early in life. Children who develop good attendance habits in the early grades will be more likely to continue them throughout their school career. That’s important, because students who miss school miss out on carefully planned sequences of instruction. They miss out on active learning experiences and class participation. They miss out on the opportunity to ask questions. They are more likely to fall behind. And they are more likely to drop out.
What Parents Can Do 1. Let your child know that you expect her to attend school every day. Explain that, just as you have a job, it’s her job to go to school and learn.
2. Set a time for doing homework each evening and a time for going to bed. Unfinished homework and too little sleep are common reasons why parents hear the words, “I don’t feel good,” on school mornings.
3. Get involved with your child’s school. When she sees you in the halls or the classrooms she’ll understand that school is important.

Levy Information
The Clover Park School District Board of Directors is proposing a four-year educational programs and operations levy in a special election on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012.
This levy will replace the district’s current educational programs and operations levy, which expires in December 2012. This is not a new tax.
When approved by voters, it is estimated that the levy rate will be no more than $3.95 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
When approved, the replacement levy will generate:
• $20.1 million in 2013; • $20.7 million in 2014; • $21.1 million in 2015; and • $21.1 million in 2016.
Eighty percent (80%) of the levy funds will be used to support classrooms including maintaining reduced class sizes, purchase of textbooks and classroom instructional materials, purchase of library materials and librarians, student academic/career guidance and health room assistance including counselors, nurses and health paras, educational program improvements (gifted, ELL, special education and assessments) and districtwide teaching and learning activities, including training;
Twelve percent (12 %) will be used for school maintenance and operations including building maintenance (painting, roofing, flooring and lighting), custodians, grounds maintenance, student transportation, food services and classroom furniture;
Seven percent (7%) will be used for school technology including classroom computers, instructional software, upgraded wiring and Internet access costs; and
One percent (1%) will be used for safety and security including school resources officers (police), campus supervisors, fire alarms and facility/property security systems.
Levy spending plans are available in room 19 at the Student Services Center, 10903 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, in Lakewood.
More information is available by calling the district’s financial services department, 583-5020 or by visiting the district’s website at http://www.cloverpark.k12.wa.us.
