Safety is an important part of participating in science. Safety guidelines
must be followed at all times. Read, sign, and date this contract at the
bottom, indicating that you agree to use safe practices at all times. This
will be on file in your science class. You may download a copy from your
science teacher's web page.
1. Follow the safety procedures outlined by your teacher. Ask questions
if you are unsure.
2. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner. No running, pushing,
horseplay, or practical jokes.
3. Know where safety equipment is located and how to use it.
4. Wear protective eyewear when instructed to do so by your teacher.
5. Never eat or drink during lab activities.
6. Use care and common sense when working with chemical substances.
7. Never put substances in your mouth. Do not taste any substance
unless your teacher specifically tells you to do so.
8. Do not smell unknown substances. If your teacher asks you to smell a
substance, wave a hand over the substance to draw the scent toward you.
9. Do not touch your face, mouth, eyes, or another person while working
with chemical substances.
10. Wash your hands with soap and warm water immediately after working
with chemical substances.
11. If you come in contact with a chemical substance, immediately rinse
skin and clothing with water, send your partner to tell the teacher.
12. Report all accidents and injuries to your teacher.
13. Use extra care when working around open flames (candles) or hot
plates.
14. Pull back and secure long hair.
15. Do not leave flame/hot plate unattended.
16. Do not reach over flame/hot plate.
17. Clean up is your responsibility! Handle all used and unused
substances as directed by your teacher.
AGREEMENT:
I, ________________________________________________, have read and understand
the Science Safety Contract. I agree to follow the safety guidelines and any
additional instructions and precautions given by the teacher. I understand
that if I do not follow the safety guidelines, I will not be allowed to
participate in lab activities.
