As we move toward the end of the first half of the year I am putting
into place a few new policies for my 3/4 period 8th grade Block. These new
policies are being put in place to help students. The on-time turn in rate
for this class is low. One writing assignment recently had 50% on-time turn
in. Also, about one-third of the class struggles on a daily basis with
speaking while a lesson is being presented or while someone is having a turn
to talk. I have spoken to the group and to individuals and it is time to stop
wasting class time on this. Beginning Jan. 4:

Late work will automatically be 20% off whatever it would have been graded if
it had been on time. This policy does not include days a student is absent
when assigned. They get the usual day for every day absent time to make it up.

Lunch detention if I have to remind a student more than once to be quiet on
any given day.

Lunch detention if a student sits in an unassigned seat without permission.

I know this may sound like a heavy hand coming down, but we need to turn the
class around to where everyone has a fair opportunity to learn. The students
also need to practice being more responsible for their work before they head
off to high school. I talked with the class before break about these new
policies. If you have any questions please email me.
