Can I check out an instrument if I am not in Music?
Yes. If you are not in music, you can get the same form that other students
who are in music use to check out an instrument. Students that are currently
taking music get priority over students that are currently not in music.
Students that have already taken music prior to checking out an instrument can
check out more of a variety of instruments than non music students, based on
availability. If you want to be able to try out instruments, get a permission
slip signed to come after school and test out an instrument to see if it is
right for you. We do not charge money to check out instruments, but by
signing the responsibility form, any damaged instrumented must be replaced.
How can my parent, guardian, or relative come volunteer?
First, they will need to stop by the front office and fill out a Washington
State Patrol Volunteer clearance form. Once that has been completed, they can
call the music room (583 5460 x 4644) or email jmckaugh@cloverpark.k12.wa.us.
At the beginning of the school year and at open house, parents can fill out
volunteer forms that relate to the music program. We need parents to help out
on field trips, fundraisers, concerts, assemblies, after school activities,
and in the classroom. If you are an adult and play an instrument, we would
enjoy having you come in and work with a section of students that are
instrument specific to your instrument.
How do I sign up for Band?
Most of the students in 7th and 8th grade Band signed up before the end of the
previous school year. New students that signed up for Band in the Counselors
office will be in Band. If a student decides that they want to do Band, they
must first complete one quarter of PE before joining. For example, if a
student takes Art first quarter and wants to join Band, they will need to take
PE 2nd quarter and then join Band for the 3rd and 4th quarter. Since they
will miss instruction for the 2nd quarter in Band due to PE requirements, they
can check out an instrument and practice at home and after school the songs
that they would be playing if they were in 2nd quarter Band. If the student
makes a serious effort, they can join in on the concerts during the quarter
they are in PE.
How can I TA for Music?
If you would like to be a TA, you'll need to get a grade check in BEFORE the
second to last week of the quarter that you want to TA. Studnets that want to
TA for the 1st quarter need to make sure that they have high enough grade
point average (I think it is a 3.0 average). Check your report card from 4th
quarter to see if you qualify. If a TA plays an instrument and practices,
they can join us in the concerts. If a TA does not play an instrument, they
can videotape the concerts.
