May flowers are blooming, and so are the learners in Room 126!
This month is a very busy one for our soon-to-be sixth graders! I continue to be proud of this wonderful class. Each student is working hard, and the results are evident in both academic and organizational skills. With middle school on the horizon, I will continue to stress quality work habits as one of our many important goals.
Checking Web Grader is a great way for parents and students to track academic progress. Be sure to click on the third trimester when visiting this site. Please remember that any work submitted for a re-do must be done in a timely manner. If any concerns or questions come up, please know that I remain happy to schedule a conference with any parent at their convenience. Just give me a call, send an e-mail or note, and we can set up a date and time. The progress of your learner is important to me, as I know it is to you.
Reading Logs are due at the beginning of each month. It is critical that children read and be read to at every age! Thank you for encouraging reading at home on a regular basis. The expectation is that the learners read books for pleasure and information, as well as books that challenge each reader to increase their vocabulary.
Math Logs are also due at the beginning of each new month. Please see that your child practices multiplication/division facts for at least ten minutes 3 times per week. The practice sessions should be recorded on the Math Log. Learners should print one best copy of math and division each week and turn it in on Friday mornings. Go to our "That's a Fact" site for a timed test. If your child does not have computer access at home for practice or printing, they should see me before Friday morning. Fact practice can take many forms; computer, flash cards, worksheets, a game format with a parent or sibling, verbal practice, etc. Our one minute speed and accuracy challenge has been a big success!! We already have many learners who have "tested out" by earning a perfect score on "That's A Fact" three times in a row. The challenge continues to be offered to everyone!
The Story Wheels were well prepared, informative, and creative. Congratulations to each student for doing a wonderful book report Thank you to all parents who provided materials and support! Our next book report will be an "Accordian" report, which is due on May 24th. Each learner should refer to their rubric as they create their report. Independently completing a project in a timely manner is an important skill. Learning how to pace the various aspects of a project is as vital as the end result.
Wednesday, May 5th will be our field trip to the EAA. Thank you to so many parents who volunteered to help! The bus will leave Amy Belle promptly at 9:00 a.m. We plan on arriving back at around 3:15 p.m. If you did not order a school sack lunch, please remember to bring your own in a disposable bag.
Amy Belle Spirit Week will take place from May 10th through May 14th. Please see the calendar on this website for details.
Early Release on Friday, May 14th will be at 12:20. No lunch will be served. That same evening, our Spring Carnival will take place!
Don't forget to send in baby pictures soon!
A very 'Happy Mother's Day' to all our dedicated moms! Thank you for all you do in so many ways! As Abraham Lincoln said, "All I am, and all I hope to be, I owe to my dear mother!"
Keep practicing the love and patience..it shows in your children! Your biggest thank you may come when you see that legacy of patience and love being passed from your children to their children!
