EARLY RELEASE DAY on Wednesday, November 23rd at 12:20 p.m.  NO LUNCH SERVED!!!

No Centers this week due to the short school week!

Kindergarten News!

During this short week the students will be learning about families and Thanksgiving traditions.  They will also be discussing and writing about what they are thankful for.  Students will also have some individual assessment time with me (Mrs. Jorgensen) in preparation for report cards.  I will be assessing math and phonics skills.

Phonics:
This week the students will be learning about the letter j and it's sound as well as the sound "ai".  Please ask your child to show you the actions for each of these letters.

Writing
:  Our Journals are coming along nicely.  This week we will be writing about what we will do for the Thanksgiving holiday and who we will be spending time with.  Please discuss this with your child as it will help them to focus on their writing rather in class than developing their idea.  Please remember when your child writes that spelling is NOT important at this time.  What your kindergartner needs to do is write the sounds that he or she hears.  Conventional spelling will be taught and developed later.

Math:  We have finished our unit on Patterns and have been working hard to learn the 3D shapes.  The students have enjoyed playing "Around the World" with 3D shape cards and are learning to recognize the shapes and name them very quickly!

Reading:  Our Centers and Reading Groups have been going very well!  However, due to the short week we will not have Centers this week. Over the next few days, our reading skills will be addressed during Group Time and during our Shared Reading time.  This is a time when I read a big book to the class and we discuss the story and it's elements

Social Studies:  This week we will learn about Thanksgiving and the history behind the holiday.

After Thanksgiving Break we will begin our science unit on fabric.  If you have any fabric scraps that you would like to donate to the classroom for experiments, please contact me.  Thank you

Phy. Ed. classes are on Tuesdays and ThursdaysPlease make sure that your child wears gym shoes on these days.  Remember, without gym shoes they will not be able to fully participate in Phy. Ed. class and will be asked to sit out.  If you would like, your child could keep a pair of gym shoes here at school.

Just a reminder:
Winter weather is sure to make its presence known here in Wisconsin.  Although this is very exciting for students, we have some rules here at Amy Belle when it comes to snow.  All students spend time outside before school and during their three recesses unless it is raining or the temperature or wind chill is below zero.  Due to this, it is imperative that your child come to school wearing the proper gear!  Please send your child to school with snow pants, boots, warm coat, mittens and a hat daily.  It is also a good idea to send an extra hat, pair of mittens, and socks since they do get very wet.  Please remember that students will not be permitted to play in the snow without this proper gear.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thanks!  Remember...No boots and snow pants = No snow!!!
