Mrs. Walker's Spectacular Second Graders

Homework

Please check your child's home folder and planner each day to keep
them on top of the daily homework, if any. Sometimes in class I will give
the children ample time to work on assignments, sometimes we will begin in
class and I will ask them to take it home to complete it.

There is a Spelling assignment each week that is due by the middle or the end
of the week. Our practice test is always on Wednesday
mornings and final test on Friday mornings. I put Friday's test score in my
grade book.

Each Friday the children will turn in their sheet and Watch Me Read book for
a stamp reward and chance to check out a new book for the next week. I
can't emphasize enough how important it is to read at least 15 minutes a
night. More reading now means better refined Reading skills later
(comprehension, fluency, etc.)!

I don't believe in homework every single night in second grade. Family time
is so important and "down time" from school work as well, after a long day
at school. I try to get alot of things done in class. Of course, there are
always exceptions. Being a mom of little ones, I enjoy the time with my
kids without constant school work. I'm sure you agree!
