Reading Requirement: Over the course of the semester, you must read a book
that heavily centers around a course topic. (For Social Problems, read a
book on a social issue and for civics, read a book focused on government.)
While non-fiction books are preferred, fiction is also acceptable.
As 25% of your final exam, you will give a report of this book to me,
describing the main points or plot, and then linking course curriculum to
it. This can be done orally in a few minutes by scheduling a time to meet
with me before school, after school, during homeroom, or during my prep
hours. They can be written instead. If written, they should be typed and be
at least a page in length. Again, they should briefly summarize the book and
then make links to the course curriculum.
I recommend starting your book early in the semester. Reports can be done
during 2nd or 4th quarters and must be completed before exam days begin.
During second semester, this means they must completed BEFORE SENIOR EXAM
DAYS FOR SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND CIVICS CLASSES!!
