4th Grade News

12/15/09
Greetings from Fourth grade...

Hello Parents,

Just a couple of things to inform you about...

Please remember your book for our exchange on Dec. 23, 09

Our December reading logs will be due on Jan. 4, 2010. Please make sure that
your child has their Biography book read to do the oral book report.
Information is being sent home on this.

We continue to work with our 4K Head Start Reading Buddies. We are enjoying
our time with them. Ask your child to tell you about it.

Our class has started Junior Achievement. Mr. Ten Pas from Kohler Co. comes to
us and teaches us about the regions of the US. Ask your child to tell you
about it.

A word about clothing... Please make sure they are wearing Sunday best for
church on Tuesdays and make sure they are coming to school with the
appropriate attire for the weather. WE DON"T WANT SICK KIDS!!!

Watch for a preliminary note about our field trip to Madison this spring. Mrs.
Murphy and I have some planning to do and will need to know some information
from you. This will come home via your child's folder.

A few words about what we have been up to in class...

We are learning about Baptism and the signs of Baptism. Talk with your child
about their Baptism.

In English we are working on conventions. We are using punctuation,
capitalization, abbreviations, commas, etc.

Math class has been a challenge! We just finished testing on some preliminary
multiplication work and we are moving into some other ways to multiply.
Please, Please, Practice those facts!!!

In Reading we are reading a book called Stone Fox. We read the story in class
and then do some activities. The story is about a young boy and his dog, dog
sledding, and races. You may want to do some research on the Iditarod Race
Across Alaska with your child on line. We will do some in class as well.

In social studies we are talking about who the first people were that lived in
WI. We have talked about the different groups of Indians that were once here,
still here and what kinds of things they brought to WI. We are also going to
talk about the fur trade and the items that Europeans introduced to the Indian
people.

We are doing well so far this year, please make sure you are checking in with
your child to see what we are doing in class and what they may have for
homework. Check their assignment books for work that may need to be completed.
Please remember to check this website for an daily updates on homework being
assigned. This may help your child out with some of the late slips you may be
signing.

We have been light on the homework lately due to some special projects in
class and we were getting ready for our Accreditation visit that was canceled.

If you have any questions about anything mentioned above, please let me know.
Thank you again for everything.

Have a very Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year!!!

Mrs. Angela Raflik
