4th Grade News

10/16/09
Greetings from Fourth grade...

Hello Parents,

Just a couple of things to inform you about...

Every month I normally have kids complete a reading log in which they are
required to read a certain amount of minutes. This month has passed me by so
fast I did not give the kids the reading log this month. I told them they are
still required to read a Mystery book and we will do a book report in class.
Students should have their book in class on Wednesday, October 28, 09 to help
them complete the book report. Of course, you as parents can always have your
child read some extra minutes at home in addition to what they have for
homework. We will begin with the reading logs in November.

Just a reminder Conferences are on Thursday, October 29, 09. Thank you to
those of you who responded to what time you thought you might stop in. If you
have not returned your sheet you can still do that.

If you have a chance e-mail me or drop me a note and let me know what you
expect a teacher to share with you about your child during conferences. Thanks.

Thank you to all of you who purchased books from Scholastic. I was able to get
12 free books with your orders for our classroom library.

Thank you to those parents who came to the Wade house and drove us there. We
appreciate your kindness.

Anyone creative out there... I received a letter from the Capital building in
Madison. They are looking for fourth graders who might be interested in making
some ornaments for the Christmas trees in the Capital building. If you have
any ideas and would like to come in and be creative with the kids, I would
encourage you to do so. I will get you the information with the theme of how
the trees will be decorated if you care to help us out.

This Friday(10/16) our class will partner up with the 4k Head Start students
from Plymouth. We partner as Reading Buddies. We will do a small activity and
then read the 4k student books. We will meet in the library once a month.
Make sure you ask your child how it went and what they all did with their
partner!! This partnership allows our students a chance to show some
responsibility and leadership to younger students.

A few words about what we have been up to in class...

We are learning about God's Ten Commandments. We discussed how we could
rephrase the Commandments to help us understand what they mean.

In English we are Nuts about Nouns! We have been working hard trying to
identify nouns and use them properly.

Math class has been a challenge! We are learning new ways to add, subtract and
gather data.

In Reading we are reading stories about Earth Patrol... We just read one on
The Great Yellowstone Fire and we will start one on Rainforests next week.

In social studies we are talking about what our land looked like long ago
during the Ice Age and how it looks today because of the glaciers that once
were on this land and state we call WI.

We are doing well so far this year, please make sure you are checking in with
your child to see what we are doing in class and what they may have for
homework. Check their assignment books for work that may need to be completed.

If you have any questions about anything mentioned above, please let me know.
Thank you again for everything.

Blessings,

Mrs. Angela Raflik
