About Miss Malson

Hi! My name is Karin Malson. I am currently the computer teacher for students
in grades K-4 through 5th grade. I am looking forward to showing the students
how to use the computer effectively, including navigating the different
programs on the computer (such as Power Point, Mavis Beacon Typing, Microsoft
Word and Excel).

I attended Mount Mary College for my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary
Education and graduated in 2008. I recently recieved my Master's Degree in
Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University.

My other passion is doing anything outdoors! I love to play sports, garden,
and do yardwork. I enjoy going to sporting events, including Milwaukee Brewer
games, Green Bay Packer games, and playing softball and volleyball with
friends. I also enjoy spending time with my family on trips and at family
events.

My goal for the students this year is to work on their computer skills. I
would like to prepare the students for high school and beyond by teaching
them how to use a wide variety of programs, including Mavis Beacon, Ten
Marks, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher), and Paint,
just to name a few. The students will also be going on a number of websites
to practice computer skills. The students will be using these websites and
programs inconjuntion with lessons in the homeroom, such as researching facts
about tigers after reading Tiger Rising and researching Presidential facts
after learning more about the states and national parks. The students will be
able to experiment with new programs (like Prezi). I want to get the students
to be prepared for the 21st Century and beyond.

The students will also be following the morals and values of the Catholic
faith.

Saint Roman Parish School Mission Statement

We, at St. Roman Parish School, are a prayer-connected faith community
centered on the Lord's commandment that you "love one another as I have loved
you." We foster an environment rich in the Catholic tradition of faith and
provide opportunities for Christian witness and service to others through
outreach projects and liturgical celebrations. The teachers and staff have
created a curriculum based on standards that assess children's learning
strengths and encourage development in order to give our students the tools
to compete in the global world. We share with the entire parish community the
commitment to education of the whole child spirtually, academically, and
physically. As members of our parish school community, we inspire others to
follow the path of Jesus.

The students also learn a creed while in my classroom.

This is how it goes:

Our Personal Creed

I am a valuable person.
I have dignity and worth.
I will make the world a better place because I am in it.
I am exceptional because I was created that way.
I will not falter in the face of any obstacle placed before me.
I am dedicated, committed, and focused.
I never give in to uncertainty or fear.
I will succeed because I strive to do my best.
I make no excuses.
I choose to live honestly, nonviolently, and honorably.
I respect myself, and in doing so, respect all people.
I have a future for which I am accountable.
I have a responsibility to my family, community, and world.
I am my brother's keeper.
I believe in others.
I can do or be anything I want to do.
My effort equals my achievement
