Career Cruising

"The highest reward for our toil is not what we get for it,
but rather what we become by it."
                                                           Anonymous

Career Cruising is the career program used by Wilmot High School.
Trevor School piloted a program in 2006, to connect the feeder school eighth
grade students with the high school through Career Cruising. It was a great
success, and now all the elementary schools that feed into Wilmot High
School use the program.
The web-based program is introduced to Trevor students, in their
Guidance classes, early in their eighth grade year. They work on it
throughout the year, and by the time they graduate from Trevor School they
will have completed questionaires related to their interests, skills and
experiences. They will research a variety of careers of interest.
The Career Cruising program can provide students a great deal of
information regarding their careers of interest, including; what course work
they will need in high school; what technical schools, colleges or
Universities, offer the education they will need; what the cost will be for
their education; what kinds of grants, scholarships or other funding sources
are available to them for their post high school education; what incomes
they can expect from their careers of interest; which careers are sought
after, and which careers are declining; and which areas of the country are
most likely to employ people in their field of interest.
The students will create pamphlets about their possible careers of
choice. They will have create a resume that they will continue to update as
they move through their high school years. They can update and use Career
Cruising during their post high school education, and it will be available
to them throughout their lives.
