Hi everyone,
My name is Joy Grossman. I've been the school counselor at Trevor Grade
School for eleven years. Most of the students call me Dr G. Most of the
parents call me Joy.
So how did I choose a path that led me to Trevor?
I grew up in a large family in Menomonie. After graduating from UW-
LaCrosse, where I met my husband, I taught physical education in Waukesha.
Tom's transfer to California coincided with the beginning of my second
career--as a stay-at-home mom. Robyn and Maren were both born in the San
Fernando Valley--our "Valley girls". We loved the excitement of Los Angeles--
and the weather. But after five years of enjoying all the opportunites
afforded us in Southern California, we were still drawn back to the Midwest,
and to family. Adam was born after we moved back to Wisconsin, and when he
was in school full-time, I also returned to school.
I received my first masters degree from UW-M and began my career as a
Child and Family Therapist in Waukesha. This was a job I loved, but I missed
being home in the summers with my children. So I returned to UW-M to
complete work in a second master's program--School Counseling. A newspaper
ad announcing an opening for a school counselor in a small, rural K-8 school
completed the pathway that led me to Trevor.
During my first few years at Trevor Dr. Lindstrom was, and continues to
be a great mentor and friend. I am appreciative of the fact that he
encouraged me to return to school for my doctorate, which I received from
Cardinal Stritch University.
I feel so lucky to work with a wonderful staff here at Trevor School.
And we are all fortunate to have excellent administrators, Dr. Steffen and
Mr. Gavlin, who provide support and positive leadership for our students,
staff and Trevor families.
It is a privilege for me to be the counselor here at Trevor School, and
I always enjoy visits from our students and their parents--so I hope you'll
stop by soon.
My mission for our students is the same as our
Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated School mission...
Together with families and community, my mission is to support
a student-centered comprehensive learning environment fostering
personal and academic excellence.
