Where can my child receive extra help on homework?
Our school provides an after school homework club. This club is
run by teachers and provides your child with the extra help and
support that they may need on their homework. The purpose of
homework club is for the students to tackle their homework and
have the resources available for asking questions or looking
answers up if they need to.
How do I know what homework they have every night?
Each child should have received an assignment notebook at school
registration. This notebook is to be filled out every night as
they see our class poster notebook filled out. If the assignment
is completed in class, then they are to check the box. If it is
not completed then they are to circle the box, indicating that
they have homework in that subject.
How can I contact my student's teacher?
I can be reached at school during school hours or by e-mail. My
address is NelsonSR@twc.k12.wi.us. If I can not answer my phone,
please leave me a message and I will get back to you by the end
of the day. In addition, you are more than welcome to stop in
either before or after school to speak with me in person.
How do I know if my child has a test or quiz coming up?
In the assignment notebook as well as on this web page, the
upcoming quizzes and tests are posted. I try to post a test on
the assignment notebook board at least two days in advance. Your
child is more than welcome to check out a
reading or grammar book to take home and study with a parent if
they need to. Also, they can take home their math books and
journals at any time without checking them out.
What is Freaky Friday?
Freaky Friday is an extra recess on Friday afternoons. Any
student who has completed all of their assignments on time will
be able to attend. Any student who has missing work will be told
what they are missing and they will stay in with one of the fifth
grade teachers for a study hall. Each week the teachers
alternate who will host the study hall. If the weather is
permitting then the recess teacher will host an indoor recess in
his or her room.
How can I help in my student's classroom?
You can help assist in the classroom as needed by speaking with
me. If you want to give a demonstation on something that
pertains to a topic that we're learning about, approach me and we
can probably work something out. I'm always looking for helpers
to make copies and laminate different
items. In the past, I've had parents take things home to cutthem
out and then send them back to school with the their child the
next day or so. This can be arranged and if that is something
that interests you please see me and I will send work home as
needed. If you would like to help in the classroom with homework
help or with differnt reading or math groups, again, please let
me know and we will work something out as needed.
