Homework

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday evenings. Essentially, homework
is reading 20 minutes, studying spelling words for the Friday test, and an
Everyday Math Home Link. Homework reinforces each day's learning, and your
participation in overseeing your child's completion of assignments is
vitally important and highly valued.

Your child completes his or her assignment notebook each day with the
specific assignments. This helps them develop skills of personal
responsibility. Third graders like codes and abbreviations, so we have
developed some shortcuts for the assignment notebooks. The codes are
related to the nightly reading assignment and are as follows:

HL = Home Link
NR = Nightly Reading Assignment
SS = Social Studies
RN = Read Naturally fluency passage

The parent letters from Everyday Math will be placed inside the math sleeve
of your child's homework folder. The information contained in these letters
isextremely beneficial as it provides essential background information on
each unit of study, homework helps, and hands-on learning game ideas.

Please continue to refer to your child's assignment notebook each evening.
This helps to reinforce to your child the importance of carefully writing
down the assignments each day. Also, continue to celebrate your child's
behavior choices each day as you see the green star near my
initials.

Thank you for the great support you continually demonstrate
by initialing your child's assignment notebook and reading log each evening.
