a baseball diamond for children with half that distance between bases.
About how far would a real ball player who hit a double run? About how
far would a child playing in the school ball field run for a double?
2. Eric said, "I saw about 20 movies last summer." If 20 was the
number of movies rounded to the nearest ten, list all of the possible
numbers of movies he could have seen.
3. Wanda went to a horse show. She saw 10 horses in a parade. If
each horse had a rider on its back, how many legs were in the parade?
4. Jen, Vera, and Eli made a total of 24 sandwiches for a picnic. Eli
made 2 sandwiches more than Vera. Jen made 2 sandwiches more
than Eli. How many sandwiches did each make?
5. A sign beside Paul's pool says, "No swimming until the
temperature hits 75'F. When Paul checks the poolside thermometer at
7:45 AM, he sees that it says 57'F. If it steadily gets 1'F warmer every 15
minutes, will Paul be allowed to go into the pool at noon? If not, when?
6. After a part;y, Flori had 3 helium-filled balloons left. During the
party, she gave out 10 balloons. She used 8 balloons to decorate her
front door, but by the end of the party 7 of them had burst. How many
balloons did Flori have before the party started?
7. Carter has 3 shirts in one drawer and 5 shirts in another. He puts 6 new
shirts into the drawer with the 3. He then takes 2 out and puts them into
the drawer with the 5. How many shirts does he have in each drawer?
8. ALice has 5 nickels in her pocket. She puts 2 dimes in and 3 nickels
fall out. She puts 2 cents in and 1 dime falls out. How much money does
Alice have in her pocket?
9. Leon has 5 apples. Ray has 4 apples, and Becky had 4 apples but dropped
one. If they share the apples equally, how many should each get?
10. You have 2 bills and 3 coins that are worth exactly $2.60. What do you
