          1. Historical Research, Evidence, and Point of View
               -determine valid from false arguments
               -identify bias and prejudice in historical interpretations
               -evaluate debates among historians concerning 
                alternative interpretations of the past, including analysis 
                of evidence and distinctions between sound generalizations 
                and misleading oversimplifications.
          2. Historical Interpretation
               -show the connections between particular historical events and
                larger social, economic, and political trends and
                developments.
               -interpret past events within the context in which an event
                unfolded rather than solely in terms of present-day norms and
                values. 
               -understand the meaning, implication, and impact of historical
                events.
     
     Specific U.S. History Standards:
          11.10 Students analyze the development of federal civil rights and
          voting rights.
