Black separatism was promoted by the Nation of Islam (Black Muslims; Elijah Mohammed and Malcolm X). His assassination in 1965 (by Black Muslims after he broke from that organization) made him a martyr for many blacks. He believed blacks had to fight the white man for the right to run their own lives. For this role you will become Malcolm X. Your group must conduct research in order to understand how he came to be who he was and how his beliefs developed. For the debate your group will answer questions and present your argument as though you are speaking as Malcolm X.
