INTRODUCTION

In the short story version of Daniel Keyes' "Flowers for Algernon,"the protagonist, Charlie Gordon, undergoes a battery of tests that measure both his personality and his intelligence. Before we read this story, we will try to see how it feels to be tested like Charlie.

These exercises will:

give you background knowledge.

familiarize you with some of the tests Charlie took.

help you empathize with the protagonist of "Flowers for Algernon."

determine whether intelligence or personality can truly be measured.
