Standards small medium large <b><u>New York State Learning Standards for ELA</u></b> <b>Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding</b> Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding.As listeners and readers, students will collect data, facts, and ideas; discover relationships, concepts, and generalizations; and use knowledge generated from oral, written, and electronically produced texts. As speakers and writers, they will use oral and written language to acquire, interpret, apply, and transmit information. <b><font color=red>Key Idea 1 Listening and Reading:</font></b> Listening and reading to acquire information and understanding involves collecting data, facts, and ideas; discovering relationships, concepts, and generalizations; and using knowledge from oral, written, and electronic sources. <b><font color=blue>Performance Indicators (Benchmarks):</font></b> 1.interpret and analyze information from textbooks and nonfiction books for young adults, as well as reference materials, audio and media presentations, oral interviews, graphs, charts, diagrams, and electronic data bases intended for a general audience 2.compare and synthesize information from different sources use a wide variety of strategies for selecting organizing, and categorizing information 3.distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and between fact and opinion <b><font color=red>Key Idea 2 Speaking and Writing:</font></b> Speaking and writing to acquire and transmit information requires asking probing and clarifying questions, interpreting information in one�s own words, applying information from one context to another, and presenting the information and interpretation clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly. <b><font color=blue>Performance Indicators (Benchmarks):</b></font> 1.present information clearly in a variety of oral and written forms such as summaries, paraphrases, brief reports, stories, posters, and charts <b>Standard 4: Language for Social Interaction</b> Students will read, write, listen, and speak for social interaction. Students will use oral and written language for effective social communication with a wide variety of people. As readers and listeners, they will use the social communications of others to enrich their understanding of people and their views. <b><font color=red>Key Idea 1:Listening and Speaking:</b></font> Oral communication in formal and Informal settings requires the ability to talk with people of different ages, genders, and cultures, to adapt presentations to different audiences, and to reflect on how talk varies in different situations. <b><font color=blue>Performance Indicators (Benchmarks):</b></font> 1.listen attentively to others and build on others� ideas in conversations with peers and adults 2. express ideas and concerns clearly and respectfully in conversations and group discussions <B><u>New York State Learning Standards for Social Studies</u></b> <b>Standard 2: World History</b> Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments, and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history from a variety of perspectives. <b><font color=red>Key Idea 3:</font></b> Study of the major social, political, cultural, and religious developments in world history involves learning about the important roles and contributions of individuals and groups. <b><font color=blue>Performance Indicators (Benchmarks)</font></b> 1.understand the roles and contributions of individuals and groups to social, political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, and religious practices and activities <b><u>New York State Learning Standards for the Arts</u></b> <b>Standard 1: Creating, Performing and Participating in the Arts</b> Students will actively engage in the processes that constitute creation and performance in the arts (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts) and participate in various roles in the arts. <b><font color=red>Key Idea 1: Visual Arts</font></b> Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes, and metaphors. Students will understand and use sensory elements, organizational principles, and expressive images to communicate their own ideas in works of art. Students will use a variety of art materials, processes, mediums, and techniques, and use appropriate technologies for creating and exhibiting visual art works. <b><font color=blue>Performance Indicators (Benchmarks)</font></b> 1.identify and use, in individual and group experiences, some of the roles and means for designing, producing, and exhibiting art works.
