"one who doesn't make time for exercise will eventually have to make time for illness"

This is my 2nd year at Prattville Intermediate, and my 3rd year teaching. I am married and have 1 wonderful son who is 1 1/2 years old. I enjoy running and spending time with my family in my spare time. My favorite sport to watch is college football (I   am a die-hard ALABAMA fan). My favorite sport to play is basketball. I am looking forward to another great year at P.I.! Go COugars!

5 Great Reasons Your Child Should Get Active- TODAY:

1- To Fight Obesity

Nearly 25 million U. S. children are

overweight or at risk of becoming overweight.

The percentage of obese kids has tripled since 1980.

2- To Prevent Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is no longer known as "Adult Onset Diabetes" because

more and more obese children are developing this condition,

which is strongly linked to inactivity and fatty diets.

3- To live Longer

People who exercise regularly lead healthier lives- and

unfit children are more likely to become out-of-shape adults.

The institute of Medicine predicts that today's kids will be

the first generation in history to die younger than their parents.

4- To Build a stronger body

Physical activity isn't just good for the heart.

It helps build strong bones and muscles, improves motor skills

and coordination, reduces weight, lowers blood pressure, and boosts a child's mood.

5- To be a happier kid

Many overweight children have low self-esteem, in part because they get

teased about their appearance and have a harder time making friends.

Overweight children that are sensitive about their weight may be driven to eat

even more and to avoid exercise- especially if he/she is sensitive about his/her athletic ability.

In order to help improve the health and wellness of our students, we are establishing an AT HOME   exercise program in which students can engage in exercises at home, fill out their Exercise Sheet, have a parent sign their sheet, and turn it in on Mondays. We will give prizes away periodically to students who complete their Exericse Sheets. Please encourage your student to take part in this program. The Exercise Sheets will be given out Monday, Aug. 21 at P. E.
